9/20/2023 0 Comments Heroes of the storm raven lordWe needed to create a version of Deckard that could stand up to these characters, which is basically how we approached his design. As is the cast with most heroes we started in earnest on him about a year ago, and he took the standard six to nine months of development time. ĭuring an interview, Matt Villers talked about the difficulties of adapting the iconic character in a MOBA: "There were concerns in adapting Cain for sure, it was fun to try and tackle that. Scroll of Sealing was created as the replacement, which better fit Deckard's tactical playstyle. When it came to playtesting however, it didn't seem to fit, given that the channel ability was a 'destructive ability' that didn't match his nature as a scholar. In this form, he would channel the ability against an enemy hero, which would reveal them and reduce their armor. His E ability was originally Identify (an ability of his from the Diablo series). It was found that putting the cube on the ground limited players' decisions, where they were constantly casting on the single point. It was shifted to its current form. Here, Deckard would place it on the ground, 'throw' abilities into it, and thus change how they worked. The Horadric Cube originally worked differently. Rather, they found that abilities that were tactical and strategic were a better fit. However, the developers felt that this wasn't true to the character. When being worked on, Deckard originally had an "explosive magic" set. Limited waveclear and general damage outputĪbilities See Data Page for a table of scaled values at key levels.ĭeckard was intended for inclusion in Heroes of the Storm as of April, 2014.Being able to set up several Healing Potions ahead of time is crucial to Deckard's ability to deal with burst damage. Deckard's only healing Ability, Healing Potion, has a high healing-over-time output and the unique ability to be used "on the ground" to allow allies to heal at their leisure. Gameplay ĭeckard is a burst Healer who excels at preparing the battlefield before a fight and can cripple enemies with crowd control. Raena then succumbs to her curse and is turned to stone. Later, the Lady of Thorns, despite being deeply injured, confronts the Raven Lord and opens a portal, urging Deckard Cain to lead her people to safety. When Cain explains that her people are already in danger and that the Raven Lord has already set his eyes on a new realm which would give him more power than her, she rallies her armies and allies to defend King's Crest and oppose the Raven Lord's forces in his plans to conquer Alterac Pass. She is initially reluctant to get involved due to her own problems with a curse that's turned her husband to stone and is now slowly afflicting her. There, they warn her of the Raven Lord’s designs on her realm and the rest of the Nexus. Said girl, Orphea, turns out to be a powerful magician of some sort and the two of them travel to the court of Raena, the Lady of Thorns and a powerful Realm Lord. At the cinematic leading into Act II, Cain is cremated on a pyre in the graveyard outside the Cathedral.ĭeckard is exploring Dragon Shire when the forces of the Raven Lord accuse him of hiding a girl from them. Cain's last act before dying is to use his Horadric magic to reforge the sword, and determine it is angelic in origin. Directing most of the major quests of Act I, Cain is fatally wounded by the witch Maghda and her Dark Coven, who seek the "fallen star" (revealed to be the fallen archangel Tyrael) and his broken sword, recovered by the player. In Diablo III, he is rescued from the ruins of Tristram's Cathedral as the Skeleton King Leoric, reanimated by the "fallen star," sends his guards to attack him. In Diablo II, he is rescued by the player character from a gibbet next to that fountain, and travels with the player throughout he continues to identify items for the player. Cain acts as adviser and guide, accompanying the player's character through each act of the games and providing a great deal of the lore to be found in-game.Ĭain remains in Tristram for the entirety of the first game, standing next to the fountain in the middle of town, where he provides his wisdom and identifies items for a small fee. He narrated the reveal trailer for the Eternal Conflict event, and provided voiceovers in regard to treasure goblins at the start of matches held during said event.Ĭain is the last surviving member of the original Horadrim, an ancient order of mages charged with trapping the Prime Evils within Soulstones and guarding them thereafter his ancestor, Jered Cain, had led the party that pursued and captured Diablo. Deckard Cain, or Cain the Elder, is a returning NPC from previous Diablo games.

While re-establishing his headquarters, Tyber goes to Yavin IV after the Death Star destruction, where he learns of the Emperor's hidden treasury vaults and designs for a new Super Star Destroyer. The four of them then escape aboard the Millennium Falcon. The actual campaign story begins with Tyber Zann, the leader of the Zann Consortium, being rescued from imprisonment on Kessel with help from Urai Fen, his loyal friend and lieutenant of the mercenary army he built over the years Fen himself arrived on Kessel with the help of Han Solo and Chewbacca. The tutorial mission sets up the main campaign plot, showing Tyber Zann's imprisonment for stealing a Sith artifact from Jabba the Hutt. The campaign story begins just prior to the Battle of Yavin as the game progresses, events from the Star Wars films occur, such as the Battle of Endor. Many of the new units and planets included in the game are incorporated from the Star Wars expanded universe. These include three phases of the Empire's Dark Trooper, Lancet Aerial Artillery, the TIE Defender, and the Super Star Destroyer Executor. New vehicles are also available, most drawn from the books and comics taking place after or between the original saga. Some planets now have infantry- and light vehicle-only terrain, and damaging terrain. Alderaan is now an asteroid field and Bespin has a new ground landscape. Corruption includes 12 new planets: Dathomir, Mandalore, Hypori, Myrkr, Felucia, Honoghr, Kamino, Mustafar, Muunilinst, Saleucami, The Maw, and Utapau. The skirmish mode includes maps for the new planets alongside the previous maps, with the optional feature of having a third player on the map. The Galactic conquest mode includes new planets, with the added feature of non-conquest goals. Corruption also introduces the ability to position structures and units on a planet's surface, pre-select starting units during space or ground battles, mobile build pads and transport ships for ground battles, the ability to repair space station hardpoints, and orbital bombardment from capital ships. The Rebel Alliance and the Empire receive new units and changes to existing ones. Crowd-pleasers include Rancor riders, surviving Droidekas and, if a "slavery" mission is performed on the forest moon of Endor, suicide bomber Ewoks. It also has a mish-mash set of original units: A ring of raiders, renegades and ruffians eventually expands to eclectic exotic equipment as the Consortium appropriates everything it can lay its hands on. Several mission types cause a small battle. Its specialty is "corruption": it can conquer planets traditionally, but also gain bonuses from enemy-controlled worlds by having its infiltrators conduct any of several kinds of missions such as bribery, sabotage or piracy. The Consortium has a full-fledged campaign that is set in the background of the original film trilogy. The Zann Consortium is a new faction, neither good or evil, but willing to go to any lengths for a profit. Pirates had previously been present in the game, but as a type of moderately-armed "speed bump" to progression in the war between Empire and Rebellion. Star Wars: Empire at War: Forces of Corruption adds the organized crime syndicate the Zann Consortium as a third faction. But most importantly: have fun and keep creating! There are no rules in art, and I think the most important artists in the world are the ones that have realized that. I think there are too many tutorials out there and too many cookie-cutter ways of doing things. There are no rules! Use any medium however you see fit. There can never be two of the same color next to each other.ĭo you have any unique tips or tricks you could share with Copic fans? Then I print the black and white drawing and use simple dots to determine which doodle will get which color, and how it works with the color next to the subject. I start with finding a color scheme for the drawing, trying to select 5-10 main colors. The coloring process has become my favorite. What is your favorite part of the creation process? Now I love the coloring process the most! After a couple months, I started using colors when I got my Copic markers. People loved it immediately, so I kept exploring this idea. But the doodles were already present and I really loved the idea of combining multiple small characters to create one big image. It actually started out as a black & white style. How did you come up with your unique style? Your work combines fun and colorful doodles with realistic drawings. Mostly pinks and yellows run out quickly. Copic sketch, Copic ciao, Copicclassic, Copic wide, Copic Ink)? Are there any specific colors you routinely use and why?Ĭopic Sketch is my favorite of course, the brush tip is just so satisfying and amazing to use! I have a pretty wide color spectrum I use, but my green markers stay pretty untouched overall (laughs). What is your favorite type of Copic marker (e.g. So, if I had the same tools as professionals, but my art wasn’t as good, that means I need to improve my skills and spend more hours drawing! I’m super lucky to have been able to get my first set of Copic markers as a birthday present, it's the only thing I wanted! I still use them today, and I have every single Copic marker color that exists. I started with set 36A. If I couldn’t, there are only my art skills to blame. My reason for using them is a pretty unique one, I believe… my thought process was like, since many professionals were using Copic markers and their work was incredible, if I had the exact same tools as them, I have zero excuses to not make wonderful work at their level. I started using Copic markers when I was 16 with the creation of my Instagram page. When did you first start using Copic markers and what made you decide to use them? Even though my parents thought it was impossible to make a career out of art, artists like KAWS and Musketon (Belgian artists) were the ones that inspired me to make my dream a reality. I think it was then that I decided I wanted to become an artist. Art history was also something I suddenly took great interest in. When turning 14-15, I became interested in drawing comics and reading related books. I’ve always made art as a kid and was always pretty good at it (I realized later on). Why did you decide to become an artist? Who or what specifically inspired you? That’s my career in a nutshell! I’m 24 now, and I’m from Belgium. My art studio is located in Brussels. More recently, I’ve been venturing into the ‘real’ art world, making appearances in museums, selling high-quality, limited-edition art prints, paintings, NFTs, art toy sculptures, etc. Through this process, I discovered my colorful doodle style, and people loved it! From there, I started making YouTube videos about my process, and that’s when my career completely exploded. I started posting a new drawing each and every day on Instagram and quickly grew an audience of a couple of thousand people. I started taking art more seriously when I turned 16 and wanted to pursue my goal of becoming an artist. Good intentions don't always result in good songs. The effect is like second-hand cringe, the musical equivalent of flipping through a stranger's middle-school yearbook. Goofy psych-era production, sub-four-track fidelity, Gabriel's bleating-goat lead, awkwardly timid backing vocals. This dopey symph-pop tune squanders its modest promise through a series of perplexing choices: layering in distracting brass, pushing the entire rhythm section into the right speaker and, for some bizarre reason, letting people not named Gabriel sing backup.įrom: B-side of "A Winter's Tale" single (1969) The most interesting thing about this Stations reject is how much Ray Wilson's overwhelming rasp conjures Peter Gabriel circa 2002. synth-saxophone? " Calling All Stations B-side" shouldn't instill much confidence. The naive "That's Me" sounds like a demo from some hippie teenagers after learning their first four chords. " From Genesis to Revelation B-side" shouldn't instill much confidence. Even the hardest of die-hards would struggle to argue the logic.įrom: B-side of "The Silent Sun" single (1968) ("Pa, you broke her heart!" might be the least convincing chorus in their catalog.) Genesis briefly tried to erase the song from history, leaving it off their 2000 box set Archive 2. The track, which first appeared on the 1982 3x3 EP, vaguely chronicles a country boy's attempt to care for his single mother - but nothing about the result, from Tony Banks' clunky chord changes to Phil Collins' hay-chewing vocal delivery, feels the slightest bit natural. If "Genesis attempting a roots-rock song" sounds like a disaster, you share the opinion of Genesis themselves. With the fine print out of the way, let's dive in: From "Mama" to "No Son of Mine," from "Firth of Fifth" to "Eleventh Earl of Mar," here's our ranking of every Genesis song. (So, no "Image Blown Out," "Pacidy," "Going Out to Get You," or "Let Us Now Make Love.") And for the sake of ease, two different song pairs have been combined into one. That means we avoided live cuts (no matter how interesting), along with compilation demos and rarities that only exist in bootleg form. Some disclaimers are needed: This list includes only officially released studio album tracks, singles and B-sides. Most prog bands faced the proposition of "adapt or die" in the '80s, but none of them navigated that change better than Genesis.įor some fans, they'll always be the long-haired dudes with mellotrons and fox costumes playing 20-minute epics for others, the group might as well not exist until "Invisible Touch." Ranking their songs is beyond difficult for that reason alone: how to pit, say, the New Wave punch of Abacab against the prog-folk warmth of Trespass? And all these choices shaped Genesis' sound in one way or another. The world is a strange place.Ī lot of more obvious career moves shaped the Genesis arc: original guitarist Anthony Phillips bowing out in 1970 due to stage fright Collins and Steve Hackett joining to form the classic quintet Peter Gabriel, who felt " part of the machinery," leaving the lineup in 1975 Collins, who'd long been balancing the band with a high-profile solo career, tapping out himself in 1996. Without that hesitation, record buyers may have never glimpsed Collins' sweaty mug on the cover of No Jacket Required. 9/19/2023 0 Comments Black hole drawingWalker does not propose a conciliatory view of the past rather, she prods the viewer to question established narratives and entrenched myths. (To the east, thirsty crops such as corn predominate to the west, drought-tolerant wheat prevails.) The line, which for centuries has fallen roughly along the 100th meridian, has moved east by about 140 miles since the late 1800s. The imaginary line runs north from the U.S.-Mexico border up to Canada, dividing the wetter eastern U.S. Research suggests that the so-called dry line is also shifting eastward. Climate change is warming the Gulf of Mexico as well, which can send generous amounts of water vapor into the southeastern U.S. Tornadoes also are more likely to develop when the local atmosphere is unstable, “and warming increases instability,” says Zuohao Cao, a tornado expert at Environment and Climate Change Canada, who co-led a recent study on storm touchdown locations. Supercells tend to form when warm, humid, low-level air interacts with cool, dry, upper-level air, and climate change is generating warmer, moister air. Why is this shift happening now? Most often tornadoes are created by a supercell-a strong thunderstorm with a rotating updraft of air. with just one tornado and more days when there are multiple tornadoes,” says Naresh Devineni, an associate professor at City University of New York, who co-led a 2021 geographical analysis of large tornado outbreaks. “It looks as if we may be having fewer days in the U.S. And outbreaks may be getting fiercer and more frequent. The swarms are clustering in a tighter geographical area than in the old Tornado Alley, too. Those events happened in just the run-up to peak season in April and May.ĭata gathered in the past two years show that in addition to solo storms, large tornado outbreaks-multiple twisters spawned by a single weather system-are shifting even more definitively to the east. A week later storms in the new tornado alley killed more than 30 people, and another group on April 4 damaged more than 80 structures in Bollinger County, Missouri. A violent twister with wind speeds of 170 miles per hour struck Rolling Fork, Miss., on March 24, killing at least 26 people. Tornado activity in early 2023 epitomized the trend.
